What is "Good Practice"?
It's not about how long we practice, it's about how we practice.
One of the most common question from prospective students or their parents is "How long should I (or he, she) practice a day or how often?"
My answer will not be __ mins a day and this might surprise them. Instead saying 30 mins a day and set a timer, I often give them certain assignments and show students how to practice at home. That means assignments students can complete and build their confidence, which toward to the more challenging pieces in the future.
My goal with students is to help them feel what it's like to self structure their time. To enjoy the process. To feel like they are accomplishing small goals. To feel rewarded by their progress.
